Every season has its own charm but I love spring the most. I think it’s because it’s time for a new beginning. Like everything else spring is the best time to give your home a fresh start…a facelift. This can be done in many different ways e.g. by giving your home a coat of fresh paint, cleaning spaces that were left untouched during the long winter or just getting rid of the things that no longer are in use. All this can be time consuming and if you are like me who doesn’t want to spend beautiful spring days inside the house then it’s best to seek professional help.
Here are some tips on spring cleaning that can help you.
Cleaning Walls and Ceiling: Wipe all the walls and ceilings if possible. Make sure to use a broom to clean all the cobwebs and dust on all the walls. If there are any stains especially in the kitchen and the bathroom use a gentle environmental friendly cleaner or even soap and water would do. Make sure to dust all the furniture, all the nooks and crannies and those hard to reach areas that we pay no heed to in the winter. Take the time to clean all the books, shelves, decorative items, picture frames, side boards, countertops and banisters.
Vacuum and Mopping: Spring is the best time to shampoo your carpets and get rid of any animal hair, hidden dust mites and allergens. Using a natural ecofriendly solvent which does not contain any harsh chemicals and is safe for your family would be ideal for this job. I would suggest using hot water for shampoo to get rid of any stains. At the end of the shampoo use natural aromatherapy oils to give a fresh smell to the rooms. Use of right natural oils can also help elevate your mood.
Hard wood Floors: After dusting its best to wipe the floor and wax hard wood floors. If it’s a small area my suggestion would be to use a gentle cloth, wax and some elbow grease. Next step would be to buff with a clean cloth. However, if you have hardwood floor all over the house it’s not a bad idea to hire an expert to do the job.
Curtains Furniture and Draperies: I would suggest washing the curtains in the washer. But first make sure they are washable and the colors don’t bleed. Once washed put them in the dry for some time and then hang them right away while still damp. This will get rid of any wrinkles and eliminate the need for ironing. If the curtains are too heavy or of a special material then getting them dry-cleaned would be a better option. If you have window blinds wipe them with a clean damp cloth. Make sure the blinds don’t break or are okay to be wiped with a damp cloth. If you have wood furniture some wax and buffing will do the magic.
If all this sounds tiring I would suggest hiring someone who can do the job for you. Luckily, we at Terry Home take care of all your spring cleaning and de-cluttering needs.
