In today’s market there are many cleaning solutions available to clean your home. Most solutions include chemical ingredients which are not that safe. As people are learning about the harsh reality of chemical ingredients and gaining knowledge about the environment, safety and health they are slowly steering away from chemicals and switching to natural cleaning solutions and products.
Some of these natural ingredients have been used in our homes since over the centuries. Salt and vinegar are the two most predominant ingredients that are used in cleaning homes the natural way.
Here are some of the ways that you can use salt and vinegar around the house to keep it clean.
Salt – You can use salt to clean your whole house, from the bathroom, to kitchen to all floors salt is the answer. If you want to prevent your floors from getting dirty quickly or want them to sparkle just add ½ cup of salt to the bucket full of warm water.
For an old tub or sink with yellow stains, try using a mixture of turpentine and salt. Leave the mixture on for about 10 – 15 minutes and then wipe it with a wet sponge. You will notice the yellow stains have disappeared.
If you have any rust stains around the house, just use a mixture of salt and lemon juice and that will do the trick.
You can prevent bad odor coming out the sink pipes by just pour some salt and vinegar solution down the drain.
People use baking soda to deodorize the refrigerator, but salt can also be used for the same purpose.
Not only this, salt can also be used to clean burnt pots, pans and oven. Just apply a large amount of salt and clean with a paper towel and that will do the trick.
Apart from this salt can also help control the weeds growing in the pavement without using the weed killer. Sprinkle some salt and it will do the trick.
Vinegar – Vinegar is not only edible but also a great all-purpose cleaner that can be used around the house safely. From kitchen to bathroom, window cleaning to carpets you name it.
You can use vinegar to clean the fridge, bathroom, especially toilets, tubs and drain.
Refrigerator and microwave are mainly used to store or to heat food. It’s highly recommended to avoid any use of chemical products inside the fridge or microwave. Instead, use 50 – 50 vinegar and water solution to wipe down the inside of the fridge or just boil the solution 2 – 3 minutes in the microwave to clean the inside of the microwave.
Vinegar can be used for stained toilets, general bathroom cleaning, tub, sinks or shower heads. For toilets just pour some vinegar overnight and then scrub in the morning and it should be clean. For tougher stains add a little baking soda the next morning and scrub.
Any clogged drain or build up can be removed by pouring in the vinegar, let the solution sit overnight in the drain and then scrub or rinse.
In order to clean a shower head, submerge the shower head in the vinegar overnight and it will remove all the buildup by next morning.
Not only this, vinegar can also be used for deep or spring cleaning to help fight any dust mites, mildew and odor. If you want deeper result, you can sprinkle some baking soda later on and vacuum. People who are allergic to fabric softeners vinegar is a natural solution for laundry. Just add a cup to the final wash or rinse cycle and that will work as well as any fabric softener.
Vinegar also helps remove any dust mites and odor in the carpet. Spray the carpet with vinegar, but first check a hidden spot to make sure it does not affect the color of the carpet. You can always add a few drops of essential oils to the liquid to make it smell nice. Vinegar is also a natural carpet pet odor remover. Use a little bit of baking soda and brush or let it dry and vacuum.
Other than this vinegar can also be used as a natural air freshener or window cleaner. It can also be used as a disinfectant around the house, just use equal amount of water to wipe down telephone, door knobs etc.
